Super cottage, fantastic setting!
Bankside Cottage has everything you need inside, and so much on your doorstep outside. It’s cosy, comfortable, well equipped, and the owner is great (friendly and efficient).
A very short stroll down the road to the River Dove and you can feed the ducks (and a few trout), buy an ice cream or hot pasty, or meander the footpath down to Dovedale (don’t miss the caves and stepping stones). It’s all wonderfully beautiful.
Two good pubs nearby (you’ll need to book for eating at The George…but it’s worth it!). It’s a delightful cottage in a magical setting. Also so much to do a short drive away.
Perfect for kids and a dog! We’ll be back!
Perfect Cottage!
Just had our sixth stay at this wonderful cottage. Clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped in ideal location for exploring Peaks. Fantastic walks from the doorstep. Gorgeous surroundings. Extremely peaceful. Bikes included.
Lovely seating area in garden. Owner Vicky extremely quick to respond and deposit returned promptly. A fantastic stay for us as always. Highly recommended.
Dog walking holiday!
A perfect little cottage in a perfect location. Great walking from the doorstep and to cap it all some lovely pubs within walking distance.
Bankside Cottage in Milldale is a little gem of a find. Well-proportioned with fantastic amenities and Vicki was an amazingly helpful and responsive host. If you are looking to get away to this part of the country, I would highly recommend taking a look at this beautiful 3-bedroom property.
This is an absolutely beautiful, secluded cottage set the most amazing landscape. One of the best escapes we’ve had. The house is stunning with all the modern conveniences. Very cosy and wonderfully quiet. I had to contact our host a couple of times and she responded almost immediately. We had a wonderful stay and could not recommend this place more highly. Thank you so much.
We had a really lovely stay and found the cottage had absolutely everything that we needed! Spotlessly clean and very homely – provided us with the ideal getaway we were after. Vicki is a great host and provided us with a few little touches that made us feel extra welcome. If we’re ever back in the area, I would definitely rebook!
Welcoming and cosy cottage set in a great location for walks in the dales. Our family stayed for 3 nights Our dog came too. There was a lovely welcome pack of wine, cookies and milk. The cottage was very clean and comfortable with all you need for a short break. Plenty of towels and hot water. Great location with walks directly from the cottage. A lovely duck pond just a few metres away.
Dovedale is approx. 3 miles away in the opposite direction Hartington is 5 miles away. It was v wet and rained most of the time we were there. However, it did not spoil our stay. The stone floors downstairs were ideal for keeping clean in wet weather. A very pretty and cosy cottage. Thank you.
Wonderful relaxing break. Along with my wife, children and Springer spaniel we had a wonderful relaxing break around Easter in this idyllic cottage. The surrounding area is stunning with plenty of walks and nothing was better after a long day than sitting in front of an open fire in the cottage. We will definitely be returning!
Excellent short family break!
Beautiful cottage in amazing surroundings. Great walks, fishing on the Dove, beautiful scenery, and only 5 miles from Ashbourne. Absolutely loved Bankside Cottage – As did my family and our dog Lexi. The cottage is spotless and very cosy. No pub or restaurant in the village (other than a small tea shop open at peak times), but plenty within a few miles drive.
The walk from Milldale to Dovedale is about 3 miles, and was manageable with a 9yr old and pet dog. Remember you have to walk back though!!
Will definitely return, but for longer next time. Thanks for having us!
Wonderful cottage for exploring the Peaks!
We had a wonderful stay during the Easter weekend in this lovely cottage. This cottage is well equipped for a family. We had lots of fun exploring the Peaks with our dog and it even snowed!
The walk to Dovedale along the river is very picturesque. There are lots of walks from the cottage and it’s within easy access to Ashbourne and Bakewell. We will definitely stay in this cottage again.

Relaxing weekend break!

We had a very lovely stay at Vicki’s cottage. It was such a cosy place to come back to after spending long days exploring the Peak District. Milldale is one of the most charming villages in the Peaks and is well situated to lots of fantastic attractions (The George in Alstonefield, Tissington Trail, Chatsworth, etc.). The cottage had fantastic amenities. Really anything you could want; Vicki has thought of. There are even bikes and helmets for guests’ use. We truly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the cottage to anyone wanting a good value for money and a slice of idyllic English country life.

Great value and excellent location. Loved walking to Dovedale from the front door! Comfortable, clean cottage.
Perfect..Absolutely gorgeous cottage in an idyllic setting. We stayed for 3 nights over Christmas… a lovely welcome pack on arrival with a bottle of Prosecco (thank you) and some tasteful Christmas decorations. The cottage is very well equipped and has everything you need. The open fire was used daily and created even more coziness, whilst relaxing and watching a movie. The utility room is really useful for storage and leaving muddy boots after a walk.
We attended the carol service in the small chapel in the village on Christmas Eve, walked to Dovedale on Christmas Day and took advantage of the good bikes at the cottage on Boxing Day. We cannot recommend this cottage highly enough for its coziness, cleanliness, attention to detail, perfect location, how well equipped it is. It created a much needed, space to relax and recharge over the festive season…thank you!
